Why Sage Resellers and Customers Prefer to Do Business with a BBB Accredited Business

Membership and accreditation in the Better Business Bureau of San Diego has caused fundamental changes in the way that DSD Business Systems communicates with our prospects, our customers, our vendors and our staff. And that’s a very good thing.

When a company is designated as a BBB Accredited Business, people find something they want immediately – Trust. So, why does BBB accreditation matter? Not only does it convey trustworthiness, but it reassures people that they can believe in a company. Not every company is eligible, however, to be approved by the BBB. Some of the most important criteria for approval are:

• Advertise truthfully
• Be transparent
• Honor promises
• Be responsive
• Safeguard privacy
• Embody integrity

So, let’s talk about just one of the standards listed above: Truth in Advertising. We have all seen – and may have fallen prey to – businesses that use advertising to lure and deceive its potential customers and business partners by making false or exaggerated claims about its company or its practices. Sadly, I have found this holds true within our own Sage software reseller community. For example, one of our peers claims to sell and implement more Sage software systems than any other company. Another claim is that a reseller’s development team is the largest and most experienced in our industry. I also found a reseller who claims to be the oldest and largest Sage partner in the United States. Quite simply, these statements of “puffery” could not pass the BBB’s test of accreditation. They are deceptive and don’t embody the values of honesty that the BBB promotes.

By definition, ACCREDITATION means: “To designate officially as meeting all formal standards; to make authoritative, credible or reputable.

In today’s marketplace of uncertainty, Gallup surveys show that consumer trust has declined significantly in nearly every industry. It’s no secret; times have been tough. But times are changing. That’s why I challenge all resellers in the Sage software community to be role models and raise the bar for our industry – so that together we keep consumer confidence high by advertising truthfully, by being transparent in our business practices, by honoring promises, by being responsive to our customers, by safeguarding privacy, and by embodying integrity.
I speak for our entire staff when I say DSD Business Systems believes in the business standards and core values that the Better Business Bureau promotes. We stand behind our word so that our prospects, customers, vendors, and partners trust us. I encourage resellers and potential customers to eliminate as much risk as possible in today’s marketplace – especially when partnering with another reseller or when making one of the largest business investments a company can make in ERP software solutions.
